Therapy for Latina Women Who Feel Lost, Insecure, or Disconnected in Their Relationships

You May Recognize Yourself Here…

You see yourself as a Latina woman—perhaps with a special connection to Caribbean culture, the Spanish language… or Spanglish.

A woman many people describe as fuerte, independent, and determined.

A woman who has learned how to buscárselas in the United States. How to survive. How to echar pa’lante.

From the outside, many people admire you. Others may even envy what you have achieved and the goals you have accomplished.

You are a Latina or Caribbean woman who is no longer in her twenties. The years have brought you a maturity that has surprised even you. You feel like you know yourself pretty well… or, at least, you thought you did until recently.

You have been in a relationship for many years. Maybe you are married; maybe you are not. This may be your first serious relationship—or perhaps another attempt at love.

But lately, you have started to feel confused.

You thought being in a relationship would make you feel querida, acompañada y cuidada—loved, supported, and cared for. And perhaps you did feel that way in the beginning. But as time has passed, you have started wondering whether you will ever feel that way again.

You may even question whether what you felt at the beginning of the relationship was entirely real.

Or perhaps you do not know exactly when these questions began. You have been too busy building your career, reaching goals, and taking care of so many things. Now that you have reached an important moment professionally—or your children no longer need as much from you—these doubts have become harder to ignore.

Does he really love me the way he says he does?

Is he questioning whether he wants to stay with me?

Will he leave me someday?

When Relationship Doubt Starts Taking Over

You no longer sleep the way you used to. You wake up tired and tense, replaying your interactions with your partner over and over in your mind. You want to rest, but your mind refuses to shut off.

Throughout the day, you watch his reactions. Without realizing it, you begin keeping a mental record: how many times he looked up from his phone or the game on TV to meet your eyes; whether he sent you a little mensajito that day; whether he remembered that one thing you have been asking him to do for what feels like forever…

And when those things do not happen, the doubt and insecurity grow.

More questions begin piling up in your mind:

When did he stop being interested in me the way he used to be?

When You Start Believing Something Is Wrong With You

Then your mind tries to find an explanation.

“Maybe I am not as interesting as I used to be.”

“Have I neglected my appearance?”

“Have I been too busy?”

“Have I become too critical—or amargada?”

Suddenly, every explanation seems to have one thing in common: debe haber algo mal conmigo. There must be something wrong with me.

You begin to see yourself as defective. You feel less than other women. You compare yourself to your friends and their seemingly successful relationships.

You become frustrated with yourself. Ashamed. Guilty. As though you have somehow failed in your relationship.

How is it possible to feel so successful out there in the world, yet feel so small inside your own relationship?

Trying to Fix Yourself Isn't Fixing the Relationship

Little by little, you fall into a trap:

“If something is wrong in my relationship, it must be because something is wrong with me. And if that is true, then I am the only one responsible for fixing it.”

So you start dieting.

You research how much breast augmentation surgery would cost.

You wear sexier clothes. You try to make yourself more available to your partner. You call him more often. You prepare his favorite meal.

But nothing changes.

And that pulls you even deeper into confusion and insecurity. It convinces you even more that you must be doing something wrong.

You begin asking him frequently whether he still loves you the way he used to. Whether he is still attracted to you.

When You Finally Realize, Ya No Puedo Seguir Así

You have been wondering for a while whether seeking help might make a difference, but you have been too busy.

Until something happens that you can no longer ignore: you receive unexpected medical results, have a breakdown at work, or find a message on his phone that seems suspicious.

And something inside you says:

Ya no puedo seguir así.

I cannot keep living like this.

What You Want Instead

You want to sleep peacefully through the night again.

You want to feel more secure in your relationship, even during those moments when the connection between you becomes weaker.

You want to feel brave enough to tell your partner what you truly need: an abracito, a night out without constantly checking what time you need to be home, or simply hearing, “I’m sorry you had such a difficult day.”

You want to be able to ask for those things without fearing that, if they do not happen, the disappointment will feel so overwhelming that you lose control—burst into tears, stop speaking to him for days, or say things you later regret.

You want to feel more emotionally steady, even when your partner is unavailable or has a different opinion from yours.

You want to learn how to honor yourself and put yourself first within the relationship—without feeling as though you are taking everything too personally. Without spending the entire day thinking about nothing but the distance between the two of you.

You Don't Have to Be the Strong One All the Time

If you recognize yourself in these words, you have come to the right place.

There is no judgment here.

I know that even the strongest, most independent, and successful Latina women deserve a space to express what they truly feel. Without the pressure to pretend they have everything under control. Without having to convince anyone that their relationship is straight out of a telenovela.

What you are feeling does not make you a failure.

It makes you human.

Therapy is not for “locas” or weak women. It is for human women like you—women who also get tired, who sometimes feel alone, and who long to rest, feel cared for, and find their way back to themselves.

You do not have to wait for another crisis to begin taking care of yourself.
